Chitwan Water Declared Arsenic-free

Arsenic, a harmful element for the human body, has not been found in drinking water in Chitwan.
Speaking at a two-day-long orientation course for journalists here on Wednesday, Keshav Bista, engineer with the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office, Bharatpur said: "During examination, no arsenic was found in the drinking water of Chitwan."
He also said that 90 per cent people here are getting drinking water. "Fifty-five per cent people here are using tube-well water while 35 per cent are using water supplied by the Nepal Drinking Water Corporation (NDWC)," he said.
Claiming that pure drinking water matching the standards of the World Health Organisation is being distributed in the municipal area, office chief of Bharatpur NDWC Ramesh KC said: "NDWC has to collect about Rs 5.8 million due from about 500 consumers."
Engineer with the Bharatpur municipality Bhoj Raj Kandel spoke about the challenges of garbage management in the municipality.
Acting director of the NGO forum and engineer Prakash Amatya told the gathering about the techniques for water collection and purification. The orientation was organised by Jana Sewa Abhiyan with the support of different non-governmental organisations.
